Equipment used to take this shot was a canon xti and 400mmf5.6 lens. Camera was set to focus at the center point of the viewfinder. Depth of field with this setup was very narrow. I would hold on a hovering dragonfly and of about 100 images about half a dozen had the head and thorax in focus.

Very well captured Dave - this would be no mean-feat!! What shutter speed and aperature setting would you be using here?

Hi Dave,
Taking these types of images gives new meaning to the word frustration but you did pretty well! I find that these type of images do look a bit better to emphasize flight........if there is something to land on to give depth. Still............one tough capture! PS Please post the specs if you get a chance.

Dave very nice image here and certainly a different perspective than the image I posted recently. It may be the same species though.

Thank you for the comments. I honestly don't know the camera settings but I am sure I had the aperature as wide open as possible to increase the shutter speed.
