At least that is the ID I am going with, the bill seems way to short for a Curlew but I have no other ID.
Taken in Baja Sur California, Mexico

1/1600, F6.3, ISO400, 400MM (70-200 w/2x), Nikon D610, Handheld

Hi, I like the separation from the bg, the sharpness of the bird and HA. While the blue bg counters the pink in the beak somewhat, in general, the colours are muted which leads me to ask how the image would look in bw. Thanks for sharing. Ihtisham

Thanks for the comment. I left this muted because in the desert it was realistic.
I like some BW in Landscape, a tiny bit in Wildlife, but I have never seen a BW in Avian photography I liked very much.
There is always a first....

Ok.. btw, I should have mentioned that the pattern and texture of the wing feathers are very very nice.

The bill indeed seems too short for Long-billed Curlew because this is a Whimbrel :S3:. Vertical was the way to go here, good call there. I wish the background rock would have been much further away, this would have made it much less prominent, especially the outline over the head. I do like the blues and golds above that. I also would have preferred the feet showing, although I realize you may not have been able to get higher without spooking the bird.
