Flowing Snow

Trees cast shadows and early light created a whimsical flowing quality to the snow. Teton Range, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming February 2016. Canon 5D III, 100-400mm IS Mark II @ 120mm, ISO 400, 1/160 second @ f/13.

Love it! The composition works well for me. I like the snow drift in FG and the soft colour of the pines. My only nit would be the brighter blob of snow caught in the tree on the LHS and various, much smaller ones thoughout the frame and the brighter slope on the mountain in the middle, down by the tree line.

I love the use of light and shadow to create depth in the image. My only sugestion would be to tone down some of the bright snow on the mountain range

Great image,I especially like the shadow play on the snow in the FG. I would dampen down the specular hightlightes in the snow in the FG, and the more I think about it the more I like Don L's idea of pulling back the mountains a little. I think the mountains & the snow FG are competing for the eye slightly, pulling back the mountain will resolve that..

I love this composition a lot. This is a very different take on the National Park. Probably one of the most majestic park in the entire system. I do find the exposure on the top half a little weird and distracting. I imagine it's an artifact of a split ND?

Hi Adhika, thanks for viewing; I think we met believe it or not at La Jolla in January. We met while shooting Pelicans below cave store. I was there the week of January 17-22. Maybe you remember, Im from Montana and was visiting my son in Fallbrook. Im sure it was you. steve

Different and fascinating -- wonderful light! Is there a darker gradient or split ND on the top half? Or is that just the light? I might tone it down a bit, in ether case -- just a bit. Love what is happening in the FG snow!

The snow foreground is exceptional, I might add bit more Green to the forest or just go B & W.

Agree with Andrew on toning down the brightest patches of snow.
I would play with a monochrome version as well!
