This trumpeter was captured last weekend, taking a stroll on the ice. It was very windy and slippery, and they were moving quite carefully across the ice. We had a real weather change, going from -11 below the previous weekend to about 50 when this shot was taken, so all the snow gone, leaving a slippery layer of water on the ice.

D4 500 AFS f6.3 1/6400s ISO 640

Post: Added a bit of canvas at bottom, selective sharpening, toned down the whites a bit.

A simple shot, but I always enjoy the effect of water on top of the ice, gives such a smooth bg.

Cheers

I like the walking pose, exposure, details, sharpness and composition. That wind on the weekend was crazy here too. Nice image Randy

Randy, beautiful composition and the light angle seems to emphasize the curve of his neck. I get the sense that he is walking with trepedation across the ice. Wondering about removing one of the catch lights and dodging the remaining one just a touch to liven up the eye?

Hi Randy,
This does give a sense that he is putting on a balancing act. Nicely exposed and well caught.

I missed this one. The ice looks like water and it looks like the bird is walking on the water. Super cool! Whites are nicely handled here as expected. Good work, Randy.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and input. Today we have gotten 7-8" of snow already, with more on the way, so no more ice walking pictures for a while!

Cheers

You can see the care the bird is taking, and I even like the side light! a

very nice Randy! I am not usually a fan of side light but this one works, I like how he is standing on shallow waters.
