Excellent detail in those eyes and nice lighting with the diffused flash. All the bits of debris in the foreground are a little distracting - those could be cleaned up if you are OK with that. :S3:

The eyes are awesome, and the title very good! The foreground stuff & brighter colors are somewhat distracting. Since the eyes are the main event, I would suggest an alternate, and OOTB, tight crop of just the eyes.

This is just a quick idea of what I was thinking about. I also added a texture and blur to the foreground to reduce the impact of the whites & details there. Just some ideas, and I know this changes the more documentary look of your posting. I am fascinated by these compound eyes & that you got this fly to pose for you!
