Had a very frustrating weekend birding but I did mange to create this image on Saturday morning. It's my very first dragonfly in-flight. This fellow was darting all around but he held still long enough for me to get off one frame.

Canon 40D. Sigma 50-500mm @ 500 on Bushhawk 320D Pro with Fill Flash. ISO 400, 1/1000 sec, F7.1. Cropped to about 40 % of full frame.

Very well done Stephen for your first dragonfly in flight!! A very good compensation for the non-performing birds!!

Thank you John, Fabs and Nonda. At least I know that I can creat an iomage like this. I've been very impressed with others that I've seen.

Hey Stephen, Excellent work. This has to be one of the toughest things to shoot, and you did very well here.

Nice d-i-f Stephen. As much as I like b-i-f against a blue sky, I keep thinking there should be context in the dragonfly image - some green of some sort.

Hi Stephen,
These are super tough.........I've been doing butterflies..............I found that getting them near something adds to the flying drama............nicely done though on a very tough capture!

You have raised the bar, Stephen. I can see everyone trying to get inflight exposures of dragonflies now!

Mike, Ed, Roman, David and Dan thanks for atking the time to comment. As I mentioned the bird photography was poor but the more I look at this image the more happy I am that I got this keeper though.
