I led a hike yesterday for our local hiking club in one of our local State Parks. I couldn't help but notice a new crop of wildflowers starting to bloom. So I made some mental notes and returned early this morning with camera gear in tow.

This image was made using my Rebel XT with a Sigma 150mm Macro lens and a 430 EX Flash with LumiQuest Softbox mounted on a flexible bracket. The whole thing was then tripod mounted with a Novoflex macro focusing rail.

Beautiful flower well isolated. Nice background too. I'd like a tiny bit more at the bottom.

Hey Ed, very well done, good details and BG, agree with Fabs on the need for a little more at the bottom. Check back later on this plant as the seed heads look like giant white puffy dandelions and are very cool to shoot abstracts.

Bill, Fabs, John and Mike,

Thank you all for the critiques, feedback, suggestions and tips. Glad to hear that you all pretty much like the image. I keep working at making my images better. Here is one other image where I backed off just a tad giving a little bit more room at the bottom. Any thoughts?

I agree. The bottom is perfect in the repost...just need a bit more on each side. Lovely composition overall and beautiful detail in the flower.

I have to agree which is why I choose the first image to begin with. Of course I could play around a bit with the crop on the second. And I have a number of other images of this flower to go through.

Thanks for commenting. Much appreciated.
