Taken yesterday, the light was bright then dull, plus the bird was very flighty,I had to chase it all over the place, then I got the chance, but I had to be quick,so had not got time to change settings.I don't use a hide, just camo clothing.cannon500mm IS,L,F4,1/4EXT,700MM FL,5D111,HANDHELD,iso2000,F6.3,1/6400S,crop,touch of sharpening for web, levels and bit of shadows.

A superb capture of a stonechat on a stone:S3: detail is superb.
I don't know what time of day the image was made but it seems like the yellows are too strong. Is the upper background the sky?

Excellent capture of this handsome bird. This is a case when a fill flash would have helped to open the dark areas.

Chris maybe try to lighten the underside of the breast and the stones if you felt so inclined, don't think I would bother .The bird itself is excellent with fine detail and colour and fits beautifully on that nice BG.

Cheers Keith.

I like the side light on the bird and the shadows on the rocks. They contain detail. I do wish that the light was hitting the bird's face with the same intensity as it is hitting the side as my eye tends to drift to the brighter places . Wondering about subtle doding of his face to lighten it just a bit.

Congrats...I've never had luck chasing birds. A very nice image because of it's composition, colors, BG. I would leave it as is.
Thank You

Thats an excellent result Chris, these little fellas don't hang about much. Lovely warm light, and I think you've done as best as possible with the shadowed breast.

A nice capture of this flighty little bird, with good detail. I had the same thought about a tiny bit of fill flash - easy to say after the fact. Maybe a little dodging of the shadows, as Grace suggested, is worth a try.

I like the side lighting, details, DOF, pose and complimentary. I would leave it the way it is, it looks great to me. Well done Chris.

Nice one. Maybe just lift the darks a tiny bit. hard not to blow the white neck collar though so has to be selective.
