Working my way through some images from Barrow, Alaska last June. I blew right past this one upon first review, but came back to it this evening. While the subject is small in the frame, the image shows the soggy tundra and the beautiful grasses. This isn't a pond, (mid-calf deep) but more of a bog from the melted snow and water kept above ground thanks to the perma-frost. The eiders just work their way around in it, foraging for food. Don't know how this happened, but I did not get a single mosquito in this frame. :)

Great angle and perspective. OOF areas look lovely and such a unique subject. Beautiful muted colors in the background also.

Grace:
For those of us who haven't been on the summer tundra, an educational and attractive post! The shooting angle and shallow DOF makes the busy environment work well, nice head angle, well exposed whites.

Real gives me the sense of him being in a "sea" of grasses.

Cheers

Nice Dof, tundra feel to this, one where I could see it even smaller in the frame...

Hi Grace, I like the low perspective here, together with a good HA. Well placed in the frame, exposure spot on, and I really like the space showing off the enviroment.

Were you in the water when you captured this?
