This strange hybrid has been hanging around our local Broad (Lake) for a couple of weeks. It is mainly Greylag but about half as big again with this bulbous forehead. It is quite aggressive. This was a big hiss at me!

He looks to be a Chinese goose...although the bill colour may not be correct. Probably dumped at your local lake? I like his "teeth", especially on his tongue!

Hi David,
I like the pose with that crazy tongue. Cool orange eye ring on this bird too.
Nice catch.

Thanks for the tip. I have been able to pin it down with your suggestion and it is a greylag x chinese goose hybrid.

Very interesting goose.
Love the details on the tongue and bill.
Good comp. Nice clean BG that compliments the goose well.
I feel the image a bit washed out and would add a bit more punch by increasing the blacks ( by +1 or +2) in the neutrals in selective coloring in CS 5 or adjust the levels,
Gail

Hi David, love the aggressive pose towards you, and what incredible detail from the beak and tongue. I do like the pastel blue of the water, and agree, a touch more contrast wont harm the image.

Thanks to everyone for your comments. Gail, thanks for the very useful critique. Have adjusted the levels and think it improves the image a lot.157808
