American Wigeon for sure, but perhaps someone can tell me whether this is a hen or a juvenile male. From Cape May in October. The dike surrounding the impoundment prevented me from getting lower, but this angle gave a nice look at the water patterns.

I want to make this a hen, but the head pattern makes me doubt myself. Will be interesting to see what others say. Everything about the image is nicely done, sharpness, exposure, etc as we have come to expect from you. My only thought is that the water patterns are so strong that they compete with the subject for my attention.

It is a male for sure, in first basic (early Fall) plumage. Nice colorful image, Bill.
