Hello everyone!

I recently got a new 5D3 and bought with it a new Sandisk CF.

Last week I almost fill the card with mostly RAW files and a couple videos I made on an antpitta and for some reason when I tried to download the images and videos windows detected something wrong with the card and I lost a few shots including the two videos. I tried to recover them using Sandisk software but they canīt be retrieved.

I wonder if someone here has had a similar experience with a happy ending?

Watching this one with interest as I had the same issue last week but not tried any recovery software yet

It seems to me that I am the only one who gets corrupted CFs ;)

I had a somewhat similar situation about a year ago. It may not be your issue but I'll toss it out. I had a new fast Lexar UDMA 7. It was OK until I got in a VERY remote location, and started getting an occasional black frame. Putting in a different card fixed the issue and when I got home a call to Lexar tech support pinpointed the problem quickly. I had been using an older card reader, and it had corrupted the card. I didn't try to recover the images as there weren't very many and I had re-shot most of them when I noticed the problem. But the fix was to format the card in the computer, then put it in the camera and format again there. (And get a new card reader suitable for UDMA cards.) The card has been fine ever since.

Juan: are you using a card reader to download the raw files, by chance?
Most corruption messages when downloading to computer is caused by a malfunctioning card reader.

Try, to download files directly (use Canon supplied cable) and if this also produces an error - I'm afraid it is your CF card that's the problem (format it in the camera, even when new).

what is the type of the CF card you are using?

what version of windows are you using?

I am using a relatively new card reader 3.0 USB.

what is the card reader you are using?

what is the type of the CF card you are using?

what version of windows are you using?

Arash I am using a Kingston USB 3.0 reader conected to a USB 3.0 port (blue) on my computer.

I am using a Sandisk Extreme Pro 32gig UDMA7

I am using windows 8.1 64bit.

I am and I tried to download the files using Canonīs cable, something weird is that for some reason one of the corrupted files came out with a different file name, I donīt know why this happened but I was unable to recover such file. :(

It is your card reader Juan it may have corrupted the card already unfortunately. I would use a different card reader

Thanks for your reply Arash. Can I ask what card reader do you use and how often do you replace it?

Juan:

Before you toss your reader, see if updating your reader's driver (preferably with one that's issued by Kingston for that model, instead of Microsoft's. Use the setup driver that may come with it, or download from Kingston's site) would correct the reader's performance.
I don't us card readers. Sometimes the manufacturer's issued driver for a device works better than Microsoft's on its hardware.

The Lexar tech support person I spoke with recommended the Lexar Professional USB 3.0 dual slot card reader. There may be others, of course.

After formatting the damaged card in the computer, then again in the camera, it has performed flawlessly for over two years.
