A black skimmer and her chick settled in as the sun set. These little ones are about as cute as it gets. The specks on the parent are sand particles. We were lucky this year as a few birds nested very close to the ropes and were quite comfortable with photographers as long as we moved up and settled low and quietly. The opportunity was short-lived as the conservation officers moved the ropes farther back a few days after this image was taken. There were reports of some bad behavior from a few folks doing stupid things.

I should add that I did a bit of beach cleanup, basically removal of undiscernable blobs that added nothing to the photo.

Too cute, Grace. Great low angle, beautiful light and love the mothers wing covering the chick.

Ah, too cute and tender. Lovely low angle, and the double perfect head angles are doubly appealing :-) I'm wondering if a subtle round of NR to the adults wing and back would be worthwhile?

Bummer some needed to spoil the opportunity for others...glad you had the chance before the ropes were moved.

This is one heck of a sweet image, Grace Love all the little bits of sand and the innocence and intimacy portrayed.
