I was very fortunate that this plover decided to hop onto this "perch" just as I was getting close enough for good images. It stayed on there for a good 20 minutes, and with strong wind gusts sometimes knocking it off-balance such as here. This provided neat wing positions and nice views of the black axillaries that are hidden underneath.
Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/320s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, small crop for composition, part of a Yellowlegs eliminated from LRC, toned down the brightest areas in the BG, usual eye-work on the subject.

I like it very much the shutter speed has given sharp detail, I must admit I am surprised the 1/320 was adequate. The tonal range is very pleasing to the eye.

Hi Dan - This is beautiful with nice soft tones, excellent detail and placement in frame. The bit of action just takes it up a notch too.

Lovely dynamic shot. I can almost feel the wind gusts. Good exposure, POV; and it shows his diagnostic armpits (OK, axillaries) very nicely.

I think this is lovely.
I can feel the wind blowing this little guy off balance.
Love the textbook view of the " armpits"!

Such a tremendously pretty image Dan. Perfect shooting angle, pose, perch and bird angle. Would love to have an image like this.
