How does "Post a thanks for this post" work? Does the recipient receive and email? Other?

Hi Anita, the recipient receives a notification at the top of the page with a link to which post it was done at (see "Notifications" next to your name). I've thanked you for this post so you should see a notification up there...

I had never noticed the "notification" box! I've missed lots of Thank Yous. Now I understand. Many thanks.

I think very few use this thank you option.

I use it as I feel it is always nice to thank a person and acknowledge their post, even if I don't have time to add comments. We should use that option more often.

I use it about 35-45 % of the time. I try to leave a reply to every 5 reads of others post. Since I do not post many of my own images anymore I mostly critique others images and try to give a thanks to others thoughtful replies. If I missed you Anita I am truly sorry. TFS.
