Taken at Point Imperial, the highest point on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. This was taken from the same place as the image with the God's Rays but looking in a different direction and on a different day.

Canon 5D3
70-200 II @ 80 mm
1/50
f11
ISO 100
Tripod with UniqueBall, 2 stop GND, luminosity mask, levels, curves, LCE, sharpened in CCPS.

C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

Rachel

Hi Rachel.. This is wonderful...very majestic. I like the compositionand the way the haze fades away the detail with distance.. My only suggestion is to pull back that bright face lower RH side.. For me its too bright and prevents the eye wandering around the image as well as it might otherwise..

The FG rock is a bit bright, but a nice layered moody look at the canyon.

Thanks Don and Dan. I will revisit the illuminated rock face. Much appreciated.

i would say don't mess with that rock! That is the way light works in the Grand Canyon. So, if the eye wanders a bit, there is much to see.

Hi Rachael, My favorite image from your series so far, love the layers and mood and I would not touch the rock face but see why other might.

Agree that the rock face is a tad hot, I am sure it was beautiful and very bright, but our eyes dynamic range always makes the tones in such instances a little more subtle, and so I think toning that down a tad would go a long way.

Stunning shot Rachel! I hear what the guys are suggesting in terms of trimming the rock's highlights a tad, but I would not mind having it in my collection as-is either!

Hi Rachel, I may not have seen all your images from this trip, but I certainly like this one lots and lots. Love the light cast on the FG rock, and then looking deep into the image at the different shapes and layers. I do like the pastel sky too. Well seen and captured.

Fabulous Rachel...I love it! As an alternate to this version have you considered a pano-type crop to eliminate the sky and the upper rim in the distance...I think it makes the rock formation in the lower right even more dramatic :)

Thanks Stu and Andrew. Andrew, that's an interesting suggestion for a crop and one I had not considered. I may have to play around a little.

Thanks again,
Rachel

Love this, Rachel! Great use of layers, light and contrast.
I'm fine with the exposure on the front rock face.
