I spent a week photographing with Doug and Kristin in Albuquerque, NM. We got some nice frames of this handsome burrowing owl at sunrise. The pupils are quite large when the light is low.

Love it man! The pupils tell me how little light there was.
Stunning capture. Period.

Hi Ari, great eye contact here, and I do like your comp with the placement of the Owl. Lovely warm colours in the BG from the early light, and overall well exposed. Great work.

Lovely stuff.Apart from the spot on sharpness, I really like the bird in its surroundings, those great eyes, and the soft morning light.
Could you have done as well with the 400 DO series 2 that I think you are evaluating? Those of us who are losing a bit of muscle power or who don't want to carry the wonderful 600 on international flights are waiting with great anticipation! Especially flight shots.

Hi Ian, I did use my 400 DO II for this trip. It worked well and has its own applications but it is not a substitute for a 600 II, especially for a subject such as a burrowing owl.

best

I have never seen my owls with pupils this big. Talk about a wide aperture. Looks like he is at f2.8 :) Nice details and soft colors. Looking forward to more from your trip.

Beautiful sunrise light on this striking owl, Aresh. Love we can see the rising sun on the horizon in the pupils.

Ah man check out those dilated pupils and the reflections within them!! Super nice frame Arash. I'd be tempted to remove the oof branch growing out of its head (but it is faint enough that it is OK left in too).
