That is a beauty wonderful presentation great angle and DOF. I like the image very much, I do wonder if it would be just a tad crisper if the shutter speed was faster. I appreciate you have taken precautions to ensure everything was steady, so maybe I am off kilter- maybe just tad more sharpening on the head?? Where was the focus point?

Jon, I generally focus on the thorax to get as much of the dragonfly in focus as possible. Maybe I am off kilter, but the head looks sharp to me - at least to suit my taste.

Wonderful composition, background, perch, subject! With dragons I sometimes find it difficult to get the eyes looking crisp from certain distances...perhaps that is what is being seen here.

I think the lack of crispness in the eyes/head is something inherent to the creature's head. I have puzzled over this in some of my own photos, and unless the critter is moving its head at high frequency, it may just be the way it is, perhaps an oily film?
