Hopefully he qualifies as long-billed despite his name. Shot on a foggy morning at Palo Alto Baylands several years ago.

I like trying in foggy conditions Bill even though it's not always successful for me, nice detail and a lovely relaxed pose on the bird, hope the bill is deemed long enough.

A strange image; everything looks sharp except for the face which looks a bit grungy.... I am thinking that this bird is not a Short-billed Dowitcher.... Did you hear it call? What is the date? a

Artie, I agree that the face is a little soft compared to the rest. This was awhile ago so I don't remember what I did in PP, but it's possible I tried some extra sharpening in an area where there was nothing to sharpen. The image was made on October 20, 2013. eBird bar charts show that both LB and SB could be present then, and this one does indeed have enough of a rounded back that it might be a Long-billed. I often have trouble telling the difference, especially when they are not in breeding plumage. I did not hear it call.
