Thanks both. Interesting comments. Heres a lesser quality shot with more of a straight on eye angle.. Interestingly I preferred the first for simply the reason the eye was looking down the bill as Herons and other water birds do.

John, in my opinion the second image is much better and much more engaging to the viewer. The eye is "alive" and even the background is more appealing (by the way, the first BG suffers from some odd compression artifacts).

THe first shot has something strange with the processing. Too many jpeg artefacts in there.

The second is great, has a good HA and a good mood to it.
