Its not often we get a visit in the NW of England by these birds , a lot of extended lunch breaks and any spare time was spent while the birds were hanging around ,luckily sitting and waiting in a nicely hidden spot I was rewarded with some lovely views of the bird....Canon 1d mk3 400mm 5.6 iso 400 1/1250 sec +1/3 ev 154401

Nice opportunity for a close-up portrait, Dennis. Always exciting to get an opportunity on an unusual bird. Frontal light shows detail well with no harsh shadows. Looks a little oversharpened to my eye.

Excellent portrait with superb IQ. I like the details and eye with transparent nicktatin membrane. Nice GG and composition.

Satish.

I like the profile and composition. Nice background and detail in the feathers. I agree with Tony that the image appears to be over sharpened. It has a crunchy look and the bill that should be smooth looks like fine grained sandpaper. All easy to fix, thank you for sharing.

I managed to get to these birds. It was a cold overcast windy day but got 2 minutes of sunlight before I had to leave. My comments would eco those above and I would ease up a little on the USM. The capture is however perfect.

nice composition and a good HA, I agree it's over-sharpened and too contrasty as processed
