When this Osprey left the nest with three young in it I was expecting it to return with a stick as it keeps building and reinforcing the sides of said nest. I was pleasantly surprised to see it come back clutching a big chunk of grasses to line the nest with...it made for a different picture than usual.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1000s., f/4, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, small crop top and left for comp (still about 80% FF).

Daniel:

Must be there version of carpet for the nest!

Very nice, soft light. Like the birds tilt in the frame, the grass , enough material below to establish the nesting situation.

I might be tempted to shorten( to match the similar stick on ridge side of nest) or eliminate the stick exiting the frame edge on the left.

Was the nest on a power pole or some other typical man made structure?

Cheers

Randy

A sweet capture, I like the composition, and yes, a bit different with the grass. All looks good to me. Regards, Ian.

Thanks guys. Randy, good suggestion on the stick. Yes, it was (is) on a power pole...luckily one shorter than usual so the angle is not too bad. Now that I look closer I forgot to remove a metal part of it in the extreme lower right corner!:t3

love the landing pose with the nesting material. I'd be tempted to clone out the smaller thin branches sticking out of the nest at 45 degree. TFS

This all looks just fine to me Daniel, certainly filled it talons to do the job, I'm fine with the untidy sticks.

Really nice to see an osprey with grasses instead of a plain stick.
I agree with advice above re: cloning sticks but not a big deal.
I might suggest a little tweak in levels or perhaps adding a bit of black to the neutrals in selective color.
