Hand held Canon 1DX Canon 100-400L IS II ISO 1600 1/3200 sec f5.6
Had a great time shooting these little guys they are pretty darned quick! Hoping for a better chance in stronger light and will try with the 500mm to reduce cropping.

Hi Jon, great fun and it appears you are getting your eye in on this too, not the easiest of subjects. Get that ISO up to around 3200, then try. I might try a CW rotation say around 2.6 and add some Vib/Sat/Brightness just to lift it a bit, or better via HSL. Then subject to the IQ a 16x9 crop, you will still retain the expanse of room but it's just 'tighter'????

Thanks Keith & Steve, yes the light was very changeable, I did take exposures at 3200 and 2500, I have some more but the subject is a tad small in the frame - I also did some 16:9, will review then post another, hope the light picks up next week then try with the 500mm.

Certainly Jonathan, the 500 would be better, but perhaps less 'manoeuvrable/flexible', do you have a 300? I hope the light picks up for you next week, good luck. As you said, these guys are fast, hence looking at 1/3200-4000 sec.

300 wouldn't be long enough Steve, I was working on 400mm and this was too short, the 500 will be tough but you never get something for nothing:w3

DOH, yep your right didn't think, as I was also thinking about a faster lens too, f/2.8, but even with a 1.4 your not far off the 100-400, but still faster.
