Light overcast which doesn't cause too many problems with exposure but unfortunatly leaves a washed out background.

Well the heron is certainly not washed out! Nice details and excellent exposure. I wasn't there so I may be wrong but was the eye so evident, it just looks so very clear.

Good solid image .
I do wish for a better position of the near wing.
IQ is excellent with good exposure. Nice that the bill is slightly open,

Hi David, have not got a decent picture of a flying bird ,this one looks very good to me with good exposure and detail, think maybe a bit of colour in the sky but we work with what we have, nice piece of work.

The wing position is not quite ideal. But it is sharp and has lots of detail. Nicely done.

Good flight job David. My herons in flight are usually doing 90 miles an hour away from my garden pond ! - only see the bum end !!
Great stuff

I'm OK with the high-key BG, that's what you needed to do to get the subject properly exposed. As mentioned, not the best wing position, and too bad the angle towards the heron is steep. Good job panning to get the subject sharp.

Thanks to everyone for your comments, very much appreciated. Not quit there on a number of counts I know, but this is my best BIF image to date. At least I know the equipment works well if not the operator!!
