Under Siege

The Cheetah's family was being surrounded by a troop of 40 some strong baboons. The cheetah huddled together next to this bush for defense. Mom was going to hunker down, but one courageous (and foolish) cubs decided to take the matter in his hands.

Hi Loi - Interesting interaction on this one. The pp looks much better here. F8 was a good choice though I am unsure of having the cheetahs sharp and the baboon oof. Any chance you shot any with the baboon in focus?

Hi Loi not working for me as presented as the subject looking away and the subjects with the more interesting behavior/facial expression are OOF , sorry Loi.
But think it was well worth to witness this and a nice document of animal behavior , so well done for that .

Whew, you had some sightings on this trip! This particular instance must have been quite exciting and quite nerve-wrecking, with quite a number of subjects moving around and so much action to capture:)

Camera settings look great - quick thinking there from you, F8 for more DOF and enough SS to capture movement, the framing is great with the cheetahs dashing in opposite directions and those grinning baboons in the BG - lots of expression there from the aggressors.

It is unfortunate the cheetahs are turned away from the camera but I have a feeling you might be saving the best for last:bg3: I would like to pretty please ask of you to share with us a number of images from this sighting (up to five) in Story Sequences Forum, if you do not mind:tinysmile_shy_t:

I don't mind the cheetahs looking away from the camera - the seriousness of the situation comes for me from seeing the aggression on the baboons' faces and the body language of the cats hints at their response. If the camera were behind the baboons you would not see their faces and, IMO, miss the tension.
It is certainly a well-taken opportunity.

Maybe it would be better as part of a photo sequence?
