I got lucky with this Barred Owlet and its prey. This was the one and only shot. I had the settings set from a previous sighting....fired off one shot and it flew off.

Canon 5D MKIII
Sigma 120-300 f2.8 OS @ 252mm
ISO 800
AV f2.8
Exp +0.33
Spot Metering

Thanks for looking:S3:

Hi Dumay, what a great sighting, and love how the Owl pops against the night BG. Placement works well, and we have a good view of how the Owl is 'latched' onto his meal with his beak and foot. Did you use any spot light or flash, as the Owl is well illuminated?

Hi Dumay, any sighting of an owl is great in my book, lol, but at night, with a snake, superb! Looks well exposed and the PP likewise. I think the spot has provided a nice balance of warmth, to me if an additional flash was used then nicely done and I thought it was only Hilton & Brendon who shot at night :bg3:.

Well done Bud, nice to see you posting.

Thanks for the comments folks...No flash used just a standard safari spot light.

Hi Dumay - Apparently one shot was all you needed. Nicely done. The snake takes this to another level. Good use of the spot. It looks great against the dark bg.

Hi Dumay, great shot here and the spot metering works well with the white. Tack sharp and good DOF for f 2.8. The snake was a real bonus. Was the light source a white or yellow spot light? Looks a bit cool to me, but you could have used a more white spot light. Loi

Hi Dumay i think this special in terms of getting the owl with prey.
Your usual IQ paired with good spotlight usage . I like the hint of detail in The BKG.

Great image Dumay! I like the IQ, snake, perch, spot light and faint BG branches add depth.

cool pose and a unique prey item. I only wish the right eye was visible a bit better

This is a pretty special image.
Excellent IQ and the spotlight has given you just the right amount of light.
The prey is pretty cool and like Stu, I like the way the snake is being held by the owlet.
Would love this in my portfolio.
