This is one of a pair of GCGs on a local lake. They're currently nesting on an island in the middle of the lake and rarely come within decent shooting range. However, this one made the trip to the far side, but as they can be quite skittish I had to wait until he did a dive, then run (can't call it a sprint!) and take cover until he went back under. This went on for a while and I'm very glad there is no CCTV coverage in the area!

A couple of specular highlights cloned out, but nothing else apart from the usual PP,

Canon 7d2
500mm f4is
ISO 800 1/3200th f5.6

Super low angle and such a clean BG. Love the comp, head turn, vivid eye and water droplets surely add a lot. NIce to see a head turn on a duck swimming away for a change.

Lovely image Mike, I like it a lot. Beautiful bird, nicely shown. Now back to running, if you are like me... on in years and overweight running is not a pretty picture. Good work getting to the right place to capture the image. Thank you for sharing.

Your description of your efforts is indeed funny, but it paid off. Nice and sharp and a beautiful background as well. Plus you got your exercise, what could be better?
