Hi Tom,

I find the perch too dominant, at least at this angle. I also think the perch is too close to the face of the bird.

Nice light, setting and eye contact. I might try a vertical crop.

Also you could try an inverse curve to reduce the contrast. Good to get him with a mouthful :)

Nice image. Wouldn't have been taken at the photographic pond area outside Madera Canyon by chance would it? Considering the Arizona sun, lighting is very good as the the detail and color. I am not too sure about the crop though.

The busy BG made it hard for me to see the seed in his beak. Agree with the s-curve suggestion to lower contrast. Bird is great looking. Perhaps darkening the perch might make it less noticeable.
