I had an early date with a kingfisher in San Diego on a Saturday morning but I got stood up by the kingfisher. One of those deals where you should've been here yesterday:(
To salvage the morning we raced to La Jolla to try to get some breading color pelican action.
This handsome male gave me a bunch of cool poses as he sat in the morning sun preening and stretching. I thought this was kind a wild looking.

Thanks as always for looking and for your input. I appreciate it.

Great pose captured here. The open beak is terrific and the BG is awesome.
Details & light are excellent.

Wow amazing. I have never seen a Pelican stretch the neck like that. Seems almost like a Heron lol

Great details and colors. Love the blue BG.

This is one heck of an image, David. Love your choice of comp with the bird coming out of the lower left corner. The colors are powerful as is the behavior. You have a winner here.

Fantastic colors, IQ and timing Dave. The california brown pelican is so photogenic in those breeding colors and the rich blue of the pacific makes for a great backdrop.
