This colorful Red Bug (Family Pyrrhocoridae) was photographed at night in Costa Rica. 1D IV, 100 mm macro, 1/160, f/16, ISO 400, AF, hand held, 430EX flash (diffused). All comments are welcome and appreciated.

Interesting insect, captured beautifully with the flash. Very nice, but if it were mine I'd consider cropping a little off the bottom, to better emphasize the subject.

I love the colors and composition here. The leaf alone would be cool -- the bug puts it way over the top!

Steve:

I like the strong diagonals in this one, not only the leaf, but the bug angled in opposition.

Because the leaf itself is so strong, I am fine with the bug being small in frame.

Nice composition. The little bug has the perfect colors and is in the perfect position. Nicely done.

Wonderful colors, subject and composition. Would not have guessed this was at night--great job with the flash.
