I've been scattering bird seed every morning and I've become quite popular with a group of local birds. The titmice are quite bold and will perch in a scruffy half-dead fig tree waiting for the goodies to be delivered. They flit around a lot and the rare times they're in a clean location, I have to move fast to frame and focus. It's a good opportunity to practice handholding.

Canon 7D2, 100-400 II, ISO 1600, 1/1000 at f/11. Should have been at ISO 800 and gone to a lower SS. Not a lot done here -- normal LR5 adjustments, into PS for NR, but hardly needed (Nik Dfine, didn't need to mask to the BG) and a little dodging and burning with masked Curves.

A lovely bird, perch, and background, to be sure. I appreciate your sharing your workflow also. I'd be curious to know if you took others with a little less bird in the frame? That, of course, is a personal preference issue. Was this taken at 400mm? Well done...

Thanks, Jack -- it was at 318mm. Almost FF -- I cropped a very slight amount off the bottom and maybe 1/6 off the left. I usually don't frame that tight but often do crop fairly tight, either because the BG is boring, or to get rid of unpleasant stuff that's too difficult to clone out.

I could restore the bottom and add to the top and left, but the image isn't that spectacular, to be worth the effort.

Very nice perch, I love that it is starting to bud at the tip. The subject is rather cute too, and lots of juicy details, and an appealing colour for the BG. Perhaps a tad tight in the frame for me too but I like it as is too.

Very cool colours on this image Diane. The bird really pops against the BG as does the perch. Nice natural looking perch I like the bird big in frame as it draws your eye to the beautiful head details . Nice pose and HA. Good work and thanks for sharing

Not a species that I have seen so I enjoyed seeing this. I think that the perch and the bg are perfect compliments to the perky little bird. For some reason, the size of the bird in the frame feels fine to me in this presentation.
