This is one of my older photos.

Other than sharpening the rose a bit, this is a straight-out-of-camera shot. This was shot with Fuji S6000 in full manual mode. ISO 100, f3.8, 1/20 sec. focal length 21.6mm. The original flower was about an inch or so in size.

Some people found this photo frustrating. So I'm interested in what you guys think about it.

Thanks for looking!

Hi Desmond - With such a beautiful rose I would tend to zoom in filling the frame with red. This would eliminate the distracting bright BG and those very dark leaves.
If you like the effect of the dark leaves for contrast then cropping the image and putting the rose off center may work.

Have to agree with John. The rose looks nice but the background is very distracting to me making it tough for me to focus on the rose. I would also like to see the rose fill more of the frame. Otherwise, the color looks good and the rose looks pretty sharp. Keep shooting.

Agree with all the previous, the rose itself looks great, the BG and framing are a big problem.

Crop in tight, vertical, use APTATS techniques to clone the leaves and fill bg with nothing but leaves
