What a wondefrul opportunity you made for yourself William.
A beautiful subject with a great BG.
I agree with you that lower would have been awesome but hey-I would take this shot in a new york minute.
The low light really hindered you from getting more DOF and I think you did very well considering your limitations with the light.
Well done,
Gail

Yes to lower. If possible, getting a look up from the kingfisher would have been cool. Otherwise, you did good in a tough situation. Love the colors and the details.

Well Done!

Push that ISO William, try 6400 the 5D can easily cope with it.

If this is a resident then put a new perch up, they are curious and love new perches, in doing so this may allow you to get lower, but then just watch you BKG. Nice vibrant colours, all looks good apart from position in frame, but already discussed. When you shoot, is this single frame or in small bursts, have a thought if single frame?

Hi William, Im fine with this angle as captured, and feel your colours on the KF are spot on. Lovely smooth BG, and your settings certainly show you were unlucky with the light. You still achieved a great result.

Nice frame of this colorful KFr. I like the minimal perch and the BG colors but I do wish for a little head turn our way. Still better than an KFr frame I have and I would very happy to get something like this., so Well done.
