Finally after 5 fruitless trips I managed to catch up to this fearless little Owl
Nikon D7100, 1/200@F4, ISO 800, 1/3 EV, 500mm f4 lens.

Like everything about this image, Roy. The concentration in that eye, talon exposed, feather detail, and graduated complimentary BG. Well done.

What an incredible sighting! I would feel so privileged to see this owl in real life.
You have a terrific BG and a sweet little perch.
I find the owl a bit underexposed and I think I see a bit of noise creeping into the feathers- nothing a bit of PP cannot fix.

I love this one, Roy. Especially the way he's hunched over on his tiny stem, and the beautiful background. Oh, and the comp. If you have other frames showing both eyes, I'm sure you'll share them; but this one made my day.

Amazing the single stem can support the wee fellow. I think you could afford some off the top and pull some blue out of the whites, but overall very nice, killer BKG. :cheers:

I had to come and look when seeing mention of your '1st pic' when looking at the 2nd one. Nice one Roy - nice pose, sharp as can be. A tad higher IQ than the 2nd one. My guess is that the lower ISO is the reason for that. Usually when I need to go beyond 800 ISO then I rather grab my D600 and sacrifice the extra reach offered by the D7100's 1.5x crop sensor.
