Hey folks - just back from a Christmas camping trip with the family to the Golden Gate Highlands in South Africa.
This is the Maluti mountain range, part of the greater Drakensberg range, under some epic light two days ago - shortly after this the rain came over and hasn't stopped all over South Africa since.

Techs:
Nikon D800
Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8 @ 24mm
f5.6 | 1/125 SS | ISO-1000
Single exposure, Handheld - don't ask, tripod camera mount went missing a day before the trip and I found it shortly after returning :bugeyed:

What a wonderful 3D sky! The soft colors are a look not so commonly seen and land in the FG leads the eye in to the image very nicely. Well done!

I love the variety of colors you've captured in the sky, from the solid blue in the upper background, to the wispy pastels in the foreground. The mountain range provides a solid foundation for the image, but the clouds are definitely the star attraction. There seems to be a very slight halo along the mountain tops.

Hi Morkel.

Hope you and the Family enjoyed the trip... These are beautiful clouds..! They provide a great depth to the image. I agree with Mike WRT slight halo, and I also think the image is very warm in its tones.. I appreciate its a sunset however and that you are fussy with the colors so I leave it at that... great image..!

Hi Morkel - Great shot! Am curious as to why you used your 70-200mm lens at a focal length of 24mm. I suspect you have a 14-24mm f2.8 lens. Perhaps you didn't have your 14-24mm close at hand but suspect you chose the 70-200mm lens for a specific reason. I know Hougaard Malan has been taking more landscape photos with his 70-200mm so as to preserve some of the size aspects that come with a longer lens. And a happy new year to you! Regards, Rob

Hey Rob - as per the EXIF info I used the 24-70mm not the 70-200mm :S3:.
I was using the 24-70mm for most of the day due to its versatility, as you can flex between wide angle and 50-70mm scapes and it brandishes my polariser.
I switched for the 14-24mm shortly after this and will post some of those as well.
