Portrait for the juvenile bald eagle

Got this porter for the juvenile bald eagle with my friend Henrik Nilson in Vanocuver, BC.

shot with Canon 1D-X and 300 f/2.8 II + 2X III. ISO 3200, f/5.6 at 1/640sec hand held. Processed with DPP 4. Hope you like it

Imperious pose for sure, carrying it off well despite being wet. Sharp, with high impact from tight framing.

How much do you feel limited by not having your 600? I know the reason you went with the 300, but just curious how quickly you adapt to the change?

This looks way better in terms IQ and surface detail :w3 than the previous eagle where i said you have the surface detail too smooth rendered !!!!
Very nice processed with excellent tonal range brought out and very good clarity .

A very good job in PP on this one .

The post processing was exactly the same as the other one. The difference is that this a juvenile eagle and that one was an adult eagle, the chest feathers are also different compared to dorsal feathers. So it had nothing to do with processing, if anything this one used L=5 and was also lifted in post by ~ 0.8EV.

Hi Randy, Thanks!

I didn't feel much limitation, usually 600 f/4 is too much for eagles as they are huge. There were a few cases when I saw a short eared owl and wish I had more focal length. The 300 II + 2X TC III is as sharp as a prime lens and the focus is really fast with the 1DX too so I didn't miss anything in terms of quality.

Hi Arash even if processed with the same settings , in key areas like head, beak , eyes and the feather surface this frame looks better to me :w3. As you know no image is like the other one .
I took both side by side into PS for better comparison .

Juve Eagles surely show the same (or more!) fierceness as the adults! Beautifully captured. (and also looks like he has recently had at least a bit of lunch!) I do like how the bottom (upper portion) of wings is well-balanced....kind of doing a scroll-down crop... maybe a bit less would be ok too... pulled my eye back to the Eagle's head then. Totally Regal on all counts tho!
