Here's another look at this unusually late Pied-billed Grebe that seems to want to attempt to over-winter here. Same circumstance and story as the other I posted of it, nut here I really liked the bow wave pushing in front of its chest. This species is a powerful swimmer, and the river it is found in is has a rather strong current - this makes for lots of interesting water patterns pushing against the subjects.
Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/250s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld while prone on the snow/ice, cropped for comp, my usual eye work, tamed a magenta-ish cast on the body (selectively desaturated the magenta channel).
