Here's another of this beautiful uncommon woodpecker I photographed last week. Better head angle, more room for the tail, and a bit more colours in the BG. Not sure what caused the faint lines in the BG, but I kinda like them. I love the tint of the blue hue on the blacks of this species.
Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/160s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, eye work, toned down the bluish area in the BG.

The head angle alone makes this one a winner over the last post for me. It's nice to see the addition of the green in the background and I too like the faint lines.
Great shot!

That's a beauty Dan, excellent details and composition - a handsome bird - haven't seen one before.

Actually what caught my attention first is the trunk. I'm pretty sure there were alot of much more boring trees around onto which it could have landed!
Then of course I got crazy jealous because I also have never encountered this specie :)

Very nice woodpecker. The BG is really nice with a good HA and IQ.

What an awesome find! Congrats.
i would take a bit off the LHS .
The eye has an unusual shape to it. Is this normal?
Blacks look good as well.

Nice job getting a ton of detail out of this dark WP. Love the classic pose and the perch and I too like the striations in the BG . Well done Daniel
