I don't shoot macro or flora subjects enough. When I saw this milkweed I had the 70-200 f/2.8, and had to do the best I could with fading light and short on time. Canon 5D3, ISO 1600, 1/500 at f/8. Handheld -- the tripod was in the car some distance away. I thought I would come back to this patch the next day and try for better, but it didn't happen.

Hi Diane. Like the light and details of this plant. It's sharp. Would like to see more warm BG. TFS.

Cheers,
Miro

Diane I think you did a super job there, I can imagine that most of these plants look very interesting but being able to isolate one with the fluffy down and clearly visible seeds and with a pleasant background is a little easier said than done.

Thanks guys! Warmer BG is an interesting idea -- I'll play with it when I get a minute.

Love the soft light on the seeds and the DOF looks just about perfect for this shot! It doesn't look like your tripod was needed. :S3:

A really lovely image Dianne---great detail on the fine filaments, seeds sharp like tack, and a nicely matched BG with it's subdued marshy green olive tones. I love shooting flowers with my 70-300 and often in the spring when out birding I'll end up shooting more flowers and berries and seeds than birds.

Thanks, everyone! Wish I had been able to spend more time with these things.

Hi Diane, this looks very sharp to me. I would have tried and I think preferred to get the stalk in focus also but understand no tripod, and soon to be no light so I think you did well....
