Taken from garden hide Canon 1DX Canon 500mm f4 Auto ISO 5,000 1/800 sec f5.
I have to admit I set this one up after admiring Dan's goldfinch! It wa lousy dull light but I thought I would take a few shots anyway. If I had had a little more light I would have gone for f8.
All C&C welcome.

Hi Jonathan
I think the bird is fine although some extra dof would have been good for the rear end. As withDan's pic though, I feel the foliage with it being in focus competes with the bird.. Just my view.

Hi Jon, lovely look back pose with a good HA. Focus and sharp where it counts, and glad that you left some space on the RHS of the frame. Love those colours in the BG.

Handsome bird and well captured, Jonathan. Like your choice of crop including fall leaves. Wonderful BG too.

Very pleasant image Jonathan. I can see why you would have went for f8.but the image is nice as it is :S3:

He he, I see the resemblance...glad I've provided some inspiration! I'm OK with this type of "competition" between subject and perch, and you've got a great background to set it all off against.

Really like that layout and balance, just appears to be slightly backfocused.Wishing the back of the bird was as focused as the green leaf in the center.

Jonathan, I love this frame. Very nice color pallet. I think he has posed for you only. I like the perch too.
Beautiful composition. I have tried to take the pictures of bird providing different perches,( of course in nature only) my bad luck they always prefer dry branches only.:c3:

Satish.
