Snow Bunting on Blue.

I had a ton of fun photographing a flock of Snow Buntings numbering about 100 birds or so. Sounds large, and when they are flying and perching around you it is impressive, but these guys can form flocks numbering a thousand or more birds during the winter months (the biggest flock I've seen of this species is a couple hundred individuals). Here is one of the paler individuals that perched nicely atop a rock. The deep blue background is the Ottawa River.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1600s., f/10, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, FF image, usual eye work, minor bill cleanup using the patch tool, NR to the BG. Audio used.

Very nice image Daniel. The blue BG really shows this bird off. Feather details are very nice. Great capture, well done. I would have to go above 3000 feet, to get a photograph of our snow bunting at this time of year :S3:

lovely details and good pose. As a nitpick i would maybe like to see a bit more of the beak shown off against the BG but thats just a personal opinion

Hi Dan, the blues of the river really set the Bunting off nicely. With that HA, I can see that the little guy is listening to your audio. Well exposed, and just enough perch/rock in the lower half of the image.
