I can just imagine this species in full breeding plumage on this fall-coloured perch...but alas, that is not possible as they are in drabber plumage at this time of year and the leaves are just green when the finches are in peak. Still an attractive bird by any means, and they add lots of life and cheerfulness to backyard feeders at all times they are present.

Canon 7D + 500mm f4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/200s., f/5.6, ISO 800, small crop for comp, eye work, feeder setup in backyard.

Great image Daniel
I have to say I feel the foliage comptes with the birda little. My eye goes straight to it.

Very nice image indeed, like the set up. The goldfinch is fairly similar to ours, is this the female?
We have similar bushes here but they tend to grow vertically.

Technically excellent in all regards. The pose and diagonal perch against the great background all make for a fine image. And I like the colorful leaves.

Great image. The colors in the perch are amazing and I agree if this was a full plumage Goldfinch it would pop even more but still this is a beautiful image.

Daniel in a perfect world it would be nice to have bird in full plumage and the leaves the colours that they are now, but until that comes this is a lovely image,bg complements it very well.

Cheers Keith.

Nice looking perch you picked out for this guy. The red is a nice addition to the overall color palette.

Do you have any with the finch body facing toward the camera?

Thanks guys!

Jon, this is a male. During the breeding season it is bright yellow with black wings and forehead.

Miguel, no front-facing posed on this perch, but some did so on another perch from the same afternoon's session. See here:
