I made a trip back to FL and spent most of my time working on portrait style shots. On one of the mornings I spent about 30 minutes with a very tame Anhinga. Nothing exciting, until he gave me one yawn. Lucky for me, he was facing me directly, giving me a nice symmetric photo opportunity.

Love the pose, the light, the symmetry of this one, Miguel. Having the bill tip in focus would have been great, but tough to do -- I imagine a stop or two wouldn't have done it.

All it takes is that ONE good moment,Miguel, and this is a pretty amazing one. Love the translucence of the bird's throat and the spot on symmetry. I wish for a tad more on top if you happen to have it.

This is amazing...I love it! Awesome details inside the mouth, right down to the blood-rich veins. I could see a bit more room above and I'm sure that would improve the comp but as is it creates a certain tension that goes well with the pose IMO.

Captured at just the right moment Miguel presenting loads of impact - love the deatil of the mouth and pin sharp eyes!

This is over the top. Stunning head on shot! I also wish for some more room on the top. Apart from that I wish it was mine.

Really interesting, both the angle and the transillumination as pointed out already. DOF is only negative, but the eye is really drawn to the mouth, so less of an issue.

This really grabs me. The thumbnail intrigued..the opened image grabs! The IQ of the image is excellent. Would love to see this one get IOTW, as it's unique, but on top of that, very well executed.
