Just back from a great morning of shorebirds. This was the calmest willet I've ever seen. He was resting on top of this dune, and while it looks like a low angle, I was standing full up. A careful approach led to a series of photographs, this is my favorite.

Thank you for looking and for your comments. I always learn from them and appreciate each one.

As you mention it feels like you were flat on the ground takeing this photo. :)
Its a real calm and nice pictures with soft colors and nice sharpness, but I wonder what it would have looked like if the beak wasnt hidden.

Thank you, Honkamaa, for looking at my image. I have about 50 in this series, some with the beak not hidden. I liked this best for the mood, but I'll post one of the others in a day or so.

I love the angle and the mood. The setting is exceptional. I too would like to see the beak a little more prominent. Perhaps a bit of photoshop work could lighten it a bit to separate it more from the back.

Nice mood. I like that we see a bit of the bill. Where exactly?

Thanks, everyone, for your comments and suggestions. I appreciate them all. Artie, this is one of the best shorebird locations in Suffolk County, Long Island, imho. But for some reason, few photograph there. It is a county park, at the Western most edge of Dune Road, called Cupsogue. You can walk it, but 4WD is best. Going back tomorrow....
