Looks like our Purple Gallinule. Great catch. I would prefer a lower angle to eliminate as much of the shadow as possible. I would also do a touch of shadow recovery under the wing. Other than that, looks wonderful, great EXP, focus, and timing.

Thanks for your feedback Walker. Yes, the Purple Swamphen is closely related to your Purple Gallinule.

In this repost I have extracted a bit more detail under the wing. I think it was worth doing - thanks for the suggestion. Regards, Ian

Love the take off, great timing and capture. Nice color and detail on the bird, works well with the background. So similar to the Purple Gallinule in Florida. Thank you for sharing.

I like the take off pose, IQ, BG, composition and the toe nail wave really adds to the image. Excellent image Ian.

The face just pops off the monitor! Superb details in the neck and breast feathers, and the trailing feet look great. I like the colours creeping into the frame in upper left corner. I wouldn't mind a tad more room at right, and I would for sure eliminate the small whitish dot underneath the shadow.

Great looking shot Ian. Love the colors of this species and the red beak, helmet and eye really stand out nicely here. Killer detail in the face and the chest feathers and I love the trailing feet. Very nice!!

Great shot, quite a skittish bird in Europe, to catch him coming towards you is quite something , love the colours and the detail shown in the bird
