A Longwood Gardens pitcher plant (Sarracenia sp.) captured by the little Canon camera. Linda made this possible by holding a black panel behind the plant, to block an otherwise distracting background.

Your comments and suggestions are most welcome.

Hi Norm
Nice one. Difficult to
grow over here. Good photo subjects though. I might have removed the second leaf and gone in a bit closer on the main one.
Cheers

Interesting plant with character, nice diagonal composition, the black background highlights the plant nicely. I think John has good suggestions that might make it even stronger.

Hi Norm,
Very nice image. I like how the light strikes the plant and really makes it stand out against the black background. The comp works for me as is with the diagonals. Well done.

Interesting plant. I like the composition but I'm distracted by the highlights. Are you shooting raw? Any way to reduce them a little?

Interesting comment, Diane. I could easily reduce the brighter areas, but I really prefer the image as presented. :S3: And I always do shoot RAW.

For Diane.

I used Viveza 2 to tone down the highlights per your suggestion. And I think you were right. This may be better. Thanks for the suggestion.

It brings out more of the delicate detail in the backlit areas, without losing the drama. It's a delicate balancing act, for sure.

Hi Norm. I like the back and rim lighting that works well against the black background and I prefer the repost with its slightly toned down highlights. Comp is subjective, but this works for me, as presented. Very nicely done!

Yes the repost looks very good indeed, I do struggle a bit though with the black background, (to me it looks as though it may have been taken at midnight but as I mentioned in a previous post that's just my opinion and most other people seem to like the black).
