I thought I would start out in the critique forum with a shot from my last outing to Bosque right after I took delivery of my D300:

Nikon D300, 300 mm AF F/4 with Kenko 1.4x converter, ISO 1000, -1 EV, Aperture Priority, F/5.6, 1/1600s. All critiques/comments welcome, thanks for looking!

You know, I really like this. The light is awesome. Head angle isn't optimal, and bird is centered, but it works for me. I think the bg is really nice and provides perspective for the bird.

Hi Michael, I received my D300 at bosque in Nov also!!

I like the blue mountains in the BG and the goose looks sharp but the light angle is creating problems since the birds head is in shadow.

Also I would crop alot off the bottom and de-center the bird. I think 51 point 3D AF would work perfect here, youc an but the bird anwhere in the frame once the AF is locked on.

That shot works very well for me... The only thing is that the bird is too centered within the image...

Great point of view being at the same level of the bird and seeing the land in the bg! Excellent exposition and I like very much the light and the wings' details...

Michael, I am glad that you like your camera and that some folks like this one. The bird is sharp and the EXP is right on, but with the bird centered and the light from the left it simply is not an effective image for me. If you had gotten the bird to the right then the centered tree would have been OK, but with both in the center the image is static.

Crisp capture. I agree that there is too much centering going on. Beautiful colors all around.
