Common Sandpiper
We,ve managed to get a hide up on a scrape so may be getting some wader stuff as they come through which will be a pleasant change for me. I feel like I need a bit of motivation at the moment photography wise.

This was on the edge of an adjacent reservoir from my pop up hide.

D200 Nikon
Sigma 50-500mm
180th sec @ f8
400 iso
Neat image.
70% of frame.
Thanks for comments on my last pic.

Congrats for the wader, John (not that I'm tired of Owls). Great stretching pose, nice detail. Good and sharp for relatively slow SS. Looks like the sun was overhead, but not objectionably harsh.

Nice pose and eye contact, John. I like the stretching pose. I would use linear burn on the belly to open up the dark area.

Thanks guys
Karl- I did try that but then it made the shadow below the bird on the mud look sort of "out of context " I suppose the darker under belly conveys the direction of the sun. Will try it later. Thanks for input.

I like the stretch pose, good composition and details, light was a bit on the harsh side

The bird looks great with nice IQ and good pose.
The environment is a bit messy but that is real life! getting lower would have eliminated all the red blotchy stuff behind the bird
but that may not have been possible.
Light a bit harsh but not a deal breaker,
Gail

Gorgeous shorebird image!...the pose is super deluxe in my opinion, and your dof is about perfect for the entire bird...that is something I always appreciate when one is working this close to a subject....I played around with scrolling the image so the bottom was cropped slightly to eliminate the shadow areas on the bottom of the frame from the little ledge...I think there is some potential there for consideration....but I can over think things when it comes to frame edges...Did I mention the pose of the subject/head angle is really good....!!

Excellent stretching pose, John! Low enough POV to isolate the subject! Love the colors, background and composition!

Hi John, I like the stretching pose with the raised leg, and slightly fanned tail, and you certainly nailed the sharpness. I feel the angle of capture is just right.
