Handheld Canon 1DX Canon 100-400L ISO 800 + 0.66, (I was alternating bewteen AV and manual mode as the light was changing as it turns out it should have been approx +1.3) 1/2000 sec f8. I went for a high shutter speed because the boat was bobbing around like a cork in a barrel.
I went to Madeira recently and spent 11 hours on a boat cetacean watching..... didn't see one not even a harp seal - now't zilch nothin, grrr! I did however manage a shot of a Corey's shearwater a first for me both to see and photograph.
All C&C welcome.

Jon:

I like the varied clouds in the bg, really adds depth. Good head angle. I could see just a sliver off the top, personal taste really. Wish the upper wing was a bit more up.

Cheers

Randy

Sorry about your poor turnout. Always frustrating.

good detailed capture. I might be inclined to darken some of the sky to give the image a bit more drama and help frame the bird within the image itself ...if you know what I mean..

Jon:

I liked Adrian's idea, and took a quick pass, with more contrast to get a bit more separation and depth. I am getting some color artifacts, but you can certainly do a better job with the RAW file.

Cheers

Yes thanks very much, I will take another look at the raw file and play with the grad filter and the brushes.

Hi Jonathan - i very much like this , you did very well under the circumstances .Randy improved the image , but i would temper the blues under the wings .
As i am not that much of a bird photog i am fine with the wings etc.
