All four Purple Martin houses on the corners of our vegetable garden now have apartments with chicks, many of which seem almost ready to fledge. And the parents are busy delivering dragonflies and other insects to the youngsters. Here, two adult females took a break on a nearby weeping cherry tree.

For personal taste, I would def. crop some off the top.

I still have little experience with the Tamron, although I believe it can produce excellent results with care and reasonable light levels. It has a good build and focuses quickly and accurately, and I find it amazing that a lens with that reach can be so compact and relatively light weight. The lens attached to my D7000 fits on one side of my ThinkTank Glass Taxi with some room to spare, leaving the other side free for a backup camera body, smaller lens etc. And the low cost of the lens is very nice. It took 3 1/2 months on a wait list to get the Tamron, but it was well worth it.
